How Can I Get Certified to Teach Children’s Yoga?

To become a certified children’s yoga teacher, take a 95-hour Children’s Yoga Teacher training with a Registered Children’s Yoga School (RCYS).

Choosing an RCYS is the most straightforward way to ensure that you have chosen a training program that meets robust standards for curricula and trainers. Why? In the United States, children’s yoga certification is not regulated by the government. Instead, children’s yoga certification is regulated by Yoga Alliance, which offers an internationally recognized social credentialing system. Social credentialing means that the industry, rather than the government, decides the standards for professional practice.

Here’s how it works:

  • Yoga Alliance sets the standards for becoming a certified children’s yoga teacher, or Registered Children’s Yoga Teacher (RCYT) (note: they use the term “registered” in lieu of “certified” to avoid confusion with a governmental institution)

  • Yoga Alliance sets the standards for becoming a Registered Children’s Yoga School (RCYS). Businesses that want to train children’s yoga teachers submit their curriculum to Yoga Alliance for evaluation. Businesses must adhere to Yoga Alliance’s standards for Registered Children’s Yoga Schools.

  • After taking a 95-Hour Children’s Yoga Teacher Training with an RCYS, Yoga Alliance grants individuals eligibility to become a Registered Children’s Yoga Teacher (RCYT) in a social database that keeps a record of who has achieved those standards. Registration is optional and there are many reasons why you may decide to opt in or opt out.
